Flood of Love

The summer of 2011 will be remembered as the summer of water in Western North Dakota, as communities across our synod fought flooding and ground water.

Burlington and Minot, along the Souris River, suffered the worst of the damage. 12,000 residents were displaced and 4,100 homes destroyed. Four congregations, including Augustana, Christ and First Lutheran in Minot along with Peace Lutheran of Burlington, sustained severe damage with combined estimates for repair well over 3 million dollars.  There is no insurance to help cover these costs.  Meanwhile a large percentage of each congregation’s members face damage to their homes and businesses.  Other communities have also been affected. Those along the Missouri River from Williston all the way to the South Dakota border. Countless people were also affected by ground water flooding forcing congregations and homeowners to gut their basements, and in some places close their rural churches.

Those who live in these communities have experienced the destructive power a flood of water can bring, we invite you to be a part of helping them experience God's healing power as the people of God respond with a powerful Flood of Love.
